As a charity reliant on donations of IT equipment to refurbish and redistribute to those in need, we place the highest priority on data security.

We couldn’t deliver our objectives as a charity without the fantastic support of our refurbishment volunteers. During two workshops every Wednesday in the Bureau, Glossop, they carry out the essential work of refurbishing and recycling the IT equipment that is donated to us. It is important that we value their contribution and one practical way

A lot has happened in the three years since we were awarded a National Lottery Community Fund grant. PCrefurb has developed significantly in response to the impact of digital exclusion, not least during the Covid pandemic.

‘E-Waste’ PCrefurb welcomes donations of IT equipment to refurbish and pass on to those unable to afford their own. During the period April 2022 to March 2023, we refurbished 560 pieces of equipment:

On the 2nd June we were able to share the wonderful news that our fantastic volunteers have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. On the 23rd June, in the company of High Peak Mayor Cllr Ollie Cross for Padfield and Mayoress Gill Cross, we gathered for a celebration at Glossop Labour Club.

PCrefurb volunteers have been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

Long term unemployment is distressing and debilitating. For Dale, 18 months without work led to mental health problems “I’d been out of work for far too long,” he explains “I’d reached the point where my anxiety was so bad I didn’t even want to answer the phone.”

Safe Start School in Ashton-under-Lyne opened its doors with a mission to support at-risk students who have been disengaged from the education system for a significant period.

“The pandemic has highlighted invisible inequalities and increasing social divides” * not least because it brought into sharp focus the effects of being digitally excluded. This demands a joint effort in response, from local government, charitable organisations and the business community.
