The Bureau is a health and well-being charity based in Glossop. Due to their volunteer services and links with GP surgeries via their social prescribing work, they were approached by the Tameside and Glossop CCG to assist with the uptake of specific health apps. To do this they recruited PCrefurb as a partner to undertake the direct work with selected patients.
Together we looked to enable patients to use three specific health apps:
- MyCOPD
- MyDiabetes
- NHS App
A trained tutor offered digital training to each participant and assist them in accessing and using the relevant app.
The tutor collated important information about the initial barriers to accessing these resources, and examine the best ways to promote use of the apps moving forward.
The pilot will explored how in-house volunteers known as ‘Digital Champions’ could be used in surgeries to continue the work in future.
