Request for donation of unwanted devices
We are partnering with a wide range of local statutory and community partners, including the NHS, to undertake a new Digital Wellbeing project.
We are looking for donations of mobile phones, tablets and laptops, that you no longer use, to help those in our communities who are at a disadvantage when it comes to access to technology.
The Digital Wellbeing project aims to help people within our communities who may need support to develop their skills and confidence to use devices to help with day to day activities and improve their health and wellbeing.

In an increasingly digital world, people who don’t have safe and reliable access to the internet are at risk of poorer health and wellbeing outcomes. With the recent COVID -19 outbreak we have seen many more traditional contacts moved online such as GP consultations and bookings. Although this gives lots of opportunities to do things differently, there is a risk that we further worsen these gaps in some of our most vulnerable communities.
For some people, access to a mobile, tablet or laptop, along with the chance to improve their digital skills will open up many more opportunities that will positively affect their health and wellbeing such as;
- Accessing online information and support
- Reducing loneliness by keeping in touch with friends and family
- Accessing health services such as GP appointments and repeat prescriptions
- Accessing online banking and ordering groceries
- Undertaking further education or learning new skills
- Greater access to employment opportunities and housing
Types of devices we need
We are on the lookout for the following types of devices;
Mobile Phones & Tablets:
Any working device running Android version 5 (Lollipop) and above or Apple iOS version 10 and above will be useful.
If your donated phone is locked to a network provider (e.g.O2, Vodafone, EE, etc.) do please let us know which one.

To use the NHS COVID-19 App devices need to be at least Android 6 (2015) or Apple iOS 13.5 (May 2020), so donations with these minimum specifications would be particularly welcome.
Laptops:
Ideally less than 5 years old capable of running Windows 7 or later, and a minimum of 4Gb RAM.
Unfortunately we can only accept and refurbish working devices, we are unable to repair broken devices. If you have the chargers or leads to accompany your device then that would be greatly appreciated.
Important information:
All account information must be removed, including Google, iTunes, device-specific accounts such as Samsung accounts.
Unfortunately if these accounts are not removed we will not be able to get past the device protection with factory reset and therefore unable to refurbish and distribute your device to someone in need. Click here for further information on how to delete your personal data.
Where to donate your device
We have several drop off points in Tameside and Glossop and will be adding more in the coming weeks. Please see the table below for your local drop off point.
Please remember to wear a mask if you are able when entering public spaces to donate your device.
